2.2 km wandelen - Schouwen-Duiveland

This one’s for the young (of heart): roam around the defensive lines of Burgh-Haamstede. This place is, to be frank, really two places, Burgh and Haamstede.
The ring-shaped walled fortress (‘burg’) was typical of the settlements in this area, with its earthen hills and wooden poles. It dates back to the time when Vikings roamed the area, wreaking havoc on Zeeland, as was their wont.
The route takes you on a thrilling rampage through the ages, the woods and dunes. Are you game?
Watch out for the remnants of that old fortress, and a castle with a moat and towers – oooh, and what’s that?! A war-time bunker, and a windmill. Phew, I could do with a pancake after all that, woddabout you?
